ANTA'S SUMMER FUN AT THE FAIRGROUNDS
August 4, 2007
North Stonington, CT

ANTA'S Summer Fun at the Fairgrounds Scheduled for August 4th

One of ANTA's most popular gatherings is back. Scheduled for August 4th at the North Stonington (CT) fairgrounds, the event promises to be full of activities perfect for a mid-summer day.

Among the activities planned are introduction to earthdog training with AKC earthdog judge and ANTA board member Richard Reynolds; lure coursing, and flat racing. This year we'll get started at 8:30 a.m. in an attempt to get ahead of the August heat.

In addition, the AKC's Canine Good Citizen test will be offered. There is no charge to take the test; however if your dog passes, there is a small fee payable to the AKC in order to obtain a certificate. The CGC is a nice designation to have, especially if you are considering taking your Norfolk on hospital or nursing home visits. The CGC is explained more fully later in this issue and information is also available on the AKC's website.

As an added service we will also have a microchip clinic for permanent identification of your dog(s). This is a painless procedure that will be performed by a licensed veterinarian. There is a charge for the microchip, and information on registering your dog will be available at the site. Pre-registration is required, and information can be found in the event flyer.

As usual, lunch will be prepared by the North Stonington Grange. Year after year this all-volunteer organization provides the best lunch of the summer you won't want to miss it!

FUN AT THE FAIRGROUNDS LIVES UP TO ADVANCE BILLING

Fun at the Fairgrounds lived up to its press notices on August 4th as visitors from as far away as Maine, Michigan and Ohio gathered in North Stonington, CT for a day filled with casual events and lots of spirited conversation.

Although no conformation judging was planned, we could have held a large puppy sweepstakes as there seemed to be little ones everywhere ... all taking in their surroundings with aplomb.

In addition to flat racing and lure coursing, there was introduction to earthwork (otherwise known as `meet the rats'), a microchip clinic, Canine Good Citizen testing, lots of grooming assistance ... and the famous lunch prepared by the ladies of the North Stonington Grange.

The weekend actually got started on Friday evening with a well-attended supper hosted by Jane and Everett Anderson at their home in nearby Mystic. Saturday dawned warm and sunny, but a nice breeze kept the fairgrounds cool enough to hold the planned events. There was something for everyone ... as some folks sat and chatted in the shade while others headed for the more strenuous activities.

More than a few people headed home with new acquisitions ... both of the wiggly-puppy kind and of the Club Store kind.

Everyone agrees that this mid-summer event is an ANTA "must" ... but we're always looking for new sites at which to gather. If you were one of the many who enjoyed this day ... or if you are disappointed that you couldn't attend because it was too far to travel ... the club welcomes your input and would be more than happy to add an activity in your back yard if you'd like to volunteer some time.
