ANTA FALL FESTIVAL
OCTOBER 14-15, 2006 -- MONTGOMERY, NY

GREG SINER TO JUDGE FALL FESTIVAL
LESLEY MATTUCHIO TO CAPTURE NORFOLKS IN ACTION

We are pleased to announce that Greg Siner will be our judge for ANTA's Fall Festival to be held on October 14 and 15, 2006 in Montgomery, NY. Greg's Poole's Ide kennel is perhaps best known for the extraordinary Irish Water Spaniels it has produced over the years. However, Greg is a long time breeder/exhibitor of Norfolks and he has been associated with ANTA since its inception. We look forward to having Greg with us.

We are also excited to announce that noted canine photographer Lesley Mattuchio will also be with us to capture the image of your favorite Norfolk on film. You may choose to have portraits, agility/obedience "action" shots, or Christmas card photographs taken.

To get an idea of what to expect, go to Lesley's website at www.leslelymattuchio.com. Select "Agility" from the choices at the top of the page. Then, scroll down until you find "Talcott Mountain Agility Club Portrait Day 2005".

We will be providing a means for advance sign up, and will have complete pricing information as details are finalized. This is an excellent opportunity to get wonderful pictures taken by a photographer who knows dogs in general, and Terriers (Airedales) in particular. We are pleased to offer this exciting opportunity to our members and friends.

Chairman Cathie Heimbach has other surprises up her sleeve, as well, so pencil in the dates of this "don't miss" annual event on your calendar.

Judge Greg Siner presents the Best in Show rosette to breeder/owner Lori Pelletier and handler Amanda Arruda as repeat winner Ch. Avalon's First Step takes top honors.

2006 Fall Festival is Rousing Success -- A Perfect 10!

Superlatives are definitely in order to describe the events surrounding the 2006 Fall Festival. Many fine dogs, happy people, and an action packed weekend -- culminating in Sunday's ever-popular field events -- made this an extra-special weekend.

On the conformation side, Judge Greg Siner carefully evaluated a strong entry before finding his Best in Show winner in the Veteran Dog class -- the incomparable Ch. Avalon's First Step. Bred and owned by Lori Pelletier, this 10 year old son of Ch. Greenfield's Step to the Rear x Ch. Yarrow's First Lady, CGC, is like fine wine ... he just gets better with age. He was ably handled to this repeat ANTA BIS win by Jessica Arruda.

Other winners on the day included Best Puppy in Show from the six to nine month bitch class, Final Lea First Class Ticket (Ch. Avalon's What's It All About x Ch. Final Lea Ticket to Ride), bred and owned by Jane Dubin, who was also shown to her win by Amanda.

Best Opposite Sex Puppy was Alex (Ch. Final Lea Big Ticket Item x Ben Kelev Redsky O'Sheerbliss) who was bred and is owned by Betsey Bliss.

Best Adult was the eventual BIS winner, and Best Opposite Sex Adult was Ch. Ben Kelev's Drizzle (Ch. Max-Well's Weatherman x Am. Bda. Ch. Sheer Bliss Sylvia Ben-Kelev) a 12 year old who was bred and is owned by Carol Falk. Drizzle was chosen from the Veteran Bitch class.

Also earning top honors were the Biffin of Beaufin and Merry of Beaufin Stakes winners. Winner of the dog stake was Ch. Avalon's What's It All About (Ch. Birkenshaw's Wind Chase x Ch. Blk Magic's White Sands of Avalon) who was bred by Lori Pelletier and Lorraine Comi and who is owned by Lori.

Winner of the bitch stake was Ch. Quinsea's Keep N Time at Ben Kelev (Ch. Ben Kelev's Good Time Charlie x Ch. Quinsea's Honey of Ben Kelev). Breeders are Mary Ellen Wigmore and Carol Falk. She is owned by Mary Ellen.

Sporting Events Reign Supreme

A large crowd assembled on Sunday to take part in a variety of sporting events. Lini Federici and Peggy Metcalf gave basic instruction on "finding the rat" to an eager group of dogs and handlers. It is always a treat to see doggy faces light up as they finally grasp the idea of "live prey" even though that prey is safely protected from flashing teeth and flailing paws. Starting puppies and inexperienced adult dogs down the tunnel, and then adding length and turns, eventually brings out the sporting nature of most of the dogs...

Sassie Joris set up a mini agility course that was tried by many an aspiring star. Norfolks are becoming more and more of a presence in the agility arena and ANTA is fortunate to have a number of members with dogs competing at the highest levels of the sport.

It goes without saying that flat racing and lure coursing were as popular as ever ... thanks in particular to Lou Heimbach and Robert Lachman who kept things running smoothly ... ably helped by a variety of enthusiastic helpers. One thing that makes ANTA events special is eager volunteers who pitch in to make all the activities a success.

As usual, the Club store was a hit and photographer Lesley Mattuchio had many subjects lining up to have pictures taken on both days. The food was spectacular, the weather perfect, and event chairman Cathie Heimbach took care of every detail necessary in order to make the weekend a success.
