ANTA SPRING FLING
LAKEWOOD, CO, JUNE 1, 2001

Message from the President
Mile High Norfolks Welcome 2001 Events

On June 1st, a small group of Norfolk owners and enthusiasts led by Louise Leone, Lee Darrigrand and Linda Vaughn met in Lakewood, Colorado for their first ever Spring Fling.

There was a match show judged by Scottish Terrier breeder Mrs. Betty Cooper who encouraged first time exhibitors and gave of her extensive knowledge of terriers to all. An enjoyable lunch was had and there was a bag of doggy goodies for our four-legged friends, as well.

After lunch Marylou Wilde and Joyce Moore gave a very informative talk on earthdog activities with a demonstration and then the novice ratters tried their hands. I think some were agreeably surprised at how quickly the ratting instinct was awakened. In all, a very enjoyable and fun day.

It was so nice being able to put faces to names and meeting fellow Norfolk enthusiasts with their many interests. I look forward to meeting many more of you in the Autumn at Katonah. Do come and meet other Norfolk owners and see what your Norfolk can do in a variety of sporting events like your Colorado counterparts, you may be agreeably surprised.

ANTA's Spring Fling A First for the Rockies

The ANTA Spring Fling near Denver drew many Norfolk owners who had never met before. Mantayo Kennels in Lakewood, just southwest of Denver, was a perfect site to hold the match. In spite of the nice turnout there was plenty of room for all. The ANTA store, four tables long, offered everything from Norfolk embroidered baggy holders to note cards, books on training, sweatshirts, and decals.

After the match, and before the fascinating talk on "Introduction to Earthdog Trials" conducted by Joyce Moore and Mary Lou Wilde, ANTA members rallied around a long table of yard-long sandwiches, salads, brownies and Norfolk-shaped cookies (the B&Ts were a tad more brown and crispy than the reds).

Individual squeaky toy trophies for the winners of each class were played with immediately upon leaving the ring, and every Norfolk attending received a Norfolk-hand-stamped bandana, among other goodies, to commemorate the fun occasion. The Best Adult and Best Puppy trophies were gorgeous baskets filled with colorful winter sweaters, ceramic dog dishes, squeaky toys and a big supply of healthy goodies.

Two well-attended, all-breed shows put on by the Flatiron Kennel Club the following weekend added to the excitement of the gathering. Coast-to-coast attendees came from California and New Jersey, while others came from around the state of Colorado and neighboring New Mexico.

A sumptuous dinner held at the Raintree Plaza Hotel on Saturday night capped off the social aspect of the ANTA weekend.

Judge Betty Cooper's choice for Best Puppy in Show was Brenda Pogue's Redtoe Tootsie, a sassy sweetie from the 2-4 Month Puppy Bitch class. Stakes Bitch and Best Adult was Arroyo's Farolito Fire owned by Liz Gordon and breeders Ann and Ed Dum.
