Rain Fails to Dampen ANTA Spirits During Fall Weekend

A large gathering of Norfolk fans convened at the John Jay Homestead for two days of activities on a fine fall weekend. Judge Jim Covey found his Best in Show winner in the Merry of Beaufin Bitch Stakes. The entrant of breeder/owner Brenda Coleman had been held over from an immensely successful Montgomery County weekend. This last minute change of plans resulted in top honors and, conveniently, a BIS award of a director's chair which replaced the one Brenda had lost the previous weekend.

Jane Anderson's long-tailed Swedish import was awarded Best Puppy and earned many positive comments about his jaunty appendage.

Perhaps the most memorable presence of the day was that of Pru and Peter Read's Solly who won the Veteran's class and went on to be named BOS Adult. Although the end was near for this venerable old champion, his presence at the show seemed to stoke his competitive fire. In the days of his final autumn, he was his active, jaunty self, with one final triumph to his name.

A wonderful seminar, presented by Dr. Robert Gilbert on Saturday evening, was well-attended as was the dinner that followed.

Sunday's activities included an informative introduction to earth conducted by Richard Reynolds, an obedience demonstration by Mary Fine, agility practice under the tutelage of Kate Connick, as well as other activities such as lure coursing and flat racing.

Thanks to all, participants and volunteers alike, for making this another successful event.
