The Canine Sports Center in Goshen, CT was a perfect venue for ANTA's Spring puppy match and sporting day. Judge Robert Naun (ably assisted by chief steward Ruth Ann Naun) drew a strong entry of 30 puppies. He chose his Best Puppy in Show from the 12-18 month dog class: Flashback Postmark (Ch. Aberschan Gilbert And x Sage's Golden Hop). Bred by Pru Read and owned by Francoise and Celine Joiris, Stamp was expertly handled by the junior of his two owners. Best Opposite to Stamp was the charming young bitch Avalon's Captive Charisma (Avalon's Prince of Thieves x Ch. Sandpiper's Calypso, CGC), who came from the four to six month bitch class and who aptly lived up to her name. This youngster was handled by her breeder/owner, Lori Pelletier.
In the "Super Puppy Stakes Class" that was open to puppies who were finished champions or had major points, Kerry Hurst's Ch. Mercator Park It Here prevailed over a strong class of competitors. Sired by Ch. Avalon's First Step, out of Ch. Glenelg Piacere, this strapping young dog was bred by Andrew Kramer. Second in the class went to Glenelg Georgie Girl (Ch. Allright American Dream x Ch. Glenelg Grazie, SE, CGC) bred and owned by Deborah Pritchard. Third was Braeland's Lily (Max-Well's Spring Into Action x Braeland's Daisy) bred and owned by Robert and Henrietta Lachman. Fourth in the class was Glenelg Teddy Terrific, a brother of the second place winner.
Following the match, some attendees stayed inside to practice their dog's obedience skills, while others moved directly outside. The Sports Center provided ample room for flat racing, lure coursing, introduction to earthdog, and agility practice on regulation equipment.
A bountiful lunch provided by the Cinema Café and ANTA's ever-popular Club Store also drew crowds.
The positive feedback generated from this event would not have been possible without dedicated volunteers! These are the folks who often give up time with their own dogs in order to run the lure, crank the bicycle, baby-sit the rat (and the dogs intent on eating it!), staff the kitchen and take care of myriad other details. My thanks to all who contributed their time and effort to make this event a success.
