ANTA SPRING FLING OFFERS OPPORTUNITY FOR HEALTH SCREENINGS

This year's Spring Fling in Centreville, Maryland offers a unique opportunity to have your dogs tested for heritable eye anomalies and heart-health.

CERF stands for the Canine Eye Registration Foundation. A simple, painless test will be performed by Dr. Nancy Bromberg, DVM for the nominal fee of $30.00. Pre-registration is required, with checks made payable to Dr. Bromberg.

A copy of each dog's AKC registration certificate must be provided at the time the test is conducted. Also, a permanent identification in the form of microchip, tattoo or DNA profile is needed for any dog to be registered with CERF. Once a dog is certified to be free of heritable eye disease, owners can then send in a completed owner's copy of the CERF form to obtain a CERF number.

Certification is good for 12 months from the date of the exam and is especially useful for dogs in a breeding program. However, even if a dog is not to be used for breeding, owners will receive valuable information about their dog's health. All results will be sent to the CERF office at the Veterinary Medical Database where the information will be entered into the breed database for Norfolks. This information will be used to generate research reports, but the individual dog's identity is kept confidential.

Also at the Spring Fling, Dr. Luis Braz-Ruivo, DVM will be conducting Doppler Ultrasounds to evaluate heart health. This painless process is a valuable aid in detecting early heart changes, particularly those related to mitral valve disease. Cost of this exam is $125.00. Pre-registration is required, and checks should be made payable to Dr. Braz-Ruivo.

This is a great opportunity to take advantage of these screening tests. The more information owners have about their dogs, the more proactive they can be in keeping them healthy and active. We are extremely pleased to be able to offer the services of these two leading veterinarians at our event.
