About ANTA
Revised 05/23/00
ANTA holds several events each year. Typically, we have a spring event in the mid-Atlantic area, a summer event in July or August in New England, and our Fall Festival in October in Katonah, New York. Other events are held as circumstances and opportunities present. (See Coming Events.)
At the spring and fall events, we generally feature puppies getting their first exposure to the match show ring and breeders presenting the results of their latest efforts. Our events offer a mix of competitive, for-fun, and educational activities; such as agility, Canine Good Citizen, conformation, earthdog, flat racing, grooming, handling, lure coursing, obedience, and sent work. ANTA's goal is to introduce the Norfolk owner and his or her dog to the full variety of abilities, interests and skills that are this breed's heritage.
Our Fall Festival combines two days of match and field activities with our Annual Meeting and educational Seminar, held in honor of ANTA founder Joan R. Read. Begun in 1995, subjects have ranged from "Form and Function in Short-Legged Terriers," with noted terrier judge Mrs. Lydia Hutchinson, to 1997's "The Terrier In Sporting Art," presented by Mr. William Secord, founding director of the Dog Museum of America, president of William Secord Gallery, Inc. in New York City, and author of many publications on canine art.
ANTA is an educational organization devoted to the "total" Norfolk. We publish our quarterly American Norfolk Terrier Information Circular (ANTIC), pedigree and year books, and various educational brochures. We recognize achievement in the breed with club awards. We hold clinics on grooming and handling and our events feature a wide variety of activities. And we support canine health research through contributions to The James A. Baker Institute for Animal Health.
